To find a hospital open on Sunday or a public holiday in Korea, check the service you need for the exact visit date, then confirm that it is accepting patients before travelling. Start with official E-Gen information and check the department, registration deadline, and entrance with the facility. An open emergency department does not mean routine outpatient clinics are open. For a medical emergency, call 119 rather than waiting to complete a routine opening-hours search.
Start with official information for your visit date
Use E-Gen, the Emergency Medical Portal, as the official starting point for hospital, clinic, and pharmacy information. Invest KOREA identifies E-Gen as a National Emergency Medical Center service. The government’s February 2026 holiday guide directs people looking for open hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies to the portal.
Keep three details together as you search: where you will be, the date and approximate arrival time, and the service required. Read any date-specific operating information for the particular facility. Save the facility name and address with the information you found so that you can confirm the same location afterward.
Useful Korean terms when reading listings include 병원·의원 (hospitals and clinics), 약국 (pharmacy), 진료과목 (medical specialty), and 진료시간 (consultation hours). Use these labels to read the listing, then check current services and language support with the facility.
If you cannot use the portal, the February 2026 government guide also gives 129 or area code + 120 as telephone information routes for holiday facilities. Confirm what information the service can provide for your location and date. Those information routes do not replace 119 for medical emergencies.
Distinguish outpatient care from emergency services
A hospital’s emergency department and its outpatient clinics have different access arrangements. Seoul National University Hospital’s international outpatient guide, for example, lists weekday walk-in hours while separately describing its emergency department as open 24/7. That example is not a timetable for other hospitals.
When checking a Sunday or holiday visit, specify which service you are asking about. A routine specialist consultation, a previously arranged test, and emergency care are different requests. For an existing appointment, use the appointment’s own department and arrival instructions; a general holiday listing does not confirm that particular booking.
Seoul’s September 2026 Chuseok information links to the Korean Emergency Medical Portal and identifies 119 for medical emergencies. Its holiday notice has a particular date and local context. Do not reuse an old holiday roster as evidence that a facility is open on your future Sunday.
Confirm that the required service is accepting patients
Before setting out, resolve the questions that a general opening entry cannot answer for your visit. Use the facility’s current official contact instructions and identify the exact branch or building.
| Check | What to ask |
|---|---|
| Date and service | Is the required department or clinic operating on this date? |
| New-patient access | Can it accept this visit, or is a prior appointment needed? |
| Registration deadline | What is the latest arrival or registration time for that service? |
| Arrival point | Which address, entrance, building, and reception point should be used? |
| Language needs | What language assistance can be arranged for this visit and time? |
| Subsequent steps | Are any required tests or dispensing steps available through this pathway? |
The walk-in appointment guide explains why arriving without a booking may still involve waiting or a different appointment date. For communication arrangements, use the English-language support checking guide. A facility appearing in a search result settles neither question by itself.
Check the pharmacy as a separate stop
An operating clinic does not confirm that a particular pharmacy is open or can dispense the prescription. Invest KOREA provides separate holiday-pharmacy information, including a link to the Korean Pharmaceutical Association’s pharmacy lookup. Check the pharmacy’s date and hours as well as its ability to handle your prescription. The post-consultation prescription guide covers collection, payment, and medicine instructions.
Keep a brief confirmation note for your own use:
Visit: [date, intended arrival time, facility and service]
Confirmed access: [appointment or walk-in instructions, registration deadline]
Arrival: [address, building and reception point]
Other arrangements: [confirmed language support and any pharmacy step]
Checked: [when the information was confirmed; unresolved questions]
Before travelling, follow up on missing service or arrival details. An opening-hours listing does not confirm an appointment.
